Topia investigates the complexity of emotions, specifically exploring individuals’ different manifestations of darkness – numbness, dissociation, depression, mania. The work examines the necessity of vulnerability, community, holding each other in pain and joy, and the effects that can have on the individual as well as those we let in.

words from the filmmaker

Topia was created as a means to navigate and process the complexities of human emotion, particularly my own struggles in understanding and expressing vulnerability. The film became a space for both myself and the performers to research our own inner worlds —our dark spaces, the intricate ways we navigate the weight of our emotions. This creative journey became a mirror, revealing parts of myself I had yet to understand, and ultimately, it softened my relationship with vulnerability, transforming it into something I could embrace with greater ease.

why we love this film

An excellent dance film centered on the complexity of life and the darker aspects of human experience. This film is both moving and gripping and had us on the edge of our seats.
