This innovative and avant-garde video dance piece dives deeply into the intense sensations of suffocation and confinement—both literal and metaphorical—and the profound journey toward liberation from these constraints. A groundbreaking collaboration between the unique creator Michal Bratt and internationally acclaimed choreographer Israel Galvan offers a stunning exploration through the personal, sophisticated language of contemporary flamenco. This creation vividly captures raw, intense experiences and emotional landscapes that resonate universally, blending authenticity, strength, and a touch of humor. With her fresh approach to screen dance, Bratt blurs the boundary between dance and film, pushing the Flamenco art form to new heights of expressiveness and conceptual depth.
words from the filmmaker
In my work, I strive to push—and sometimes break—the boundaries of Flamenco by blending it with other disciplines. This fusion, involving elements of theater, contemporary dance, and diverse musical genres like jazz, electronic, klezmer, and classical, enriches the art form, enhances audience engagement, and expands the range of artistic expression. In addition to stage performances, I’ve created video dance films where the camera reveals subtle movements often missed in live shows, offering viewers a more intense and layered experience. This medium allows for a different kind of storytelling, shaping the project's concept and execution. The themes I explore are rooted in my personal experiences and the world around me—identity, motherhood, relationships, digital media, and socio-political issues. For me, creating art is a way to process these experiences, deepen understanding, and find inner peace.
why we love this film
Captivating. Clever. Quirky way of capturing the essence of solitude, with a hint of delirium. A dash of humor makes it even better.
